How this rating was reached

Score of 35/100 is above Fortnite (20) because the purchases are not purely cosmetic: crafting-time skips and inventory/weapon/Warframe slot limits affect play, and Prime Resurgence rotations run on limited windows. Well below Candy Crush Saga (55) because nothing is permanently money-gated and there is no randomized paid pull — all non-cosmetic equipment is earnable through normal play. No cost-to-progress figure is published, and one would misrepresent the design: since all non-cosmetic gear is obtainable for free, money shortens progression rather than unlocking it. Digital Extremes states no figure and the official landing page shows no prices. hasEnding is false: continuous expansion since 2013 with no terminal ending, though scripted story quests exist within it.

What the monetization actually looks like

The load-bearing fact about Warframe's monetization is that all Warframes, weapons and other non-cosmetic equipment can be acquired through normal play. There are no purchasable loot boxes. Money is not the gate on power, which puts this game in a genuinely different category from the gacha titles despite being free-to-play and over a decade old.

What money does buy is time and space: crafting timers can be skipped, and inventory, weapon and Warframe slots are limited unless expanded with premium currency. Prime Access bundles package a new character with cosmetics and currency.

Why this is not scored as zero

Slot limits and crafting timers are not cosmetic. A player who never spends will hit an inventory ceiling and will wait real hours for builds to finish, which means the free path and the paid path differ in something other than appearance. That is convenience monetization, and it is a real cost even when nothing is permanently locked away.

Prime Resurgence rotations also run on limited windows, which adds the same fear-of-missing-out pressure that pushes Fortnite above zero. The score sits above Fortnite and well below the timer-driven and randomized games.

Why no cost figure

Digital Extremes publishes no cost-to-progress figure, and the official landing page shows no prices. More importantly, a cost-to-progress number would misrepresent the game: since all non-cosmetic gear is earnable for free, there is no sum that unlocks progression, only sums that shorten it.

No ending, by design

Warframe has run in what the studio itself frames as perpetual development since 2013, with continuous expansions. It contains scripted story quests, but no terminal ending.
