How this rating was reached
Score of 20/100 — no pay-to-win exists at all, which caps the pressure well below every gacha or freemium-with-power game on this site; the score isn't zero because limited-time cosmetics create real fear-of-missing-out pressure to buy now. estimatedCostToProgress of $8.99 is the price of the seasonal Battle Pass (800 V-Bucks, per Epic's own official pricing page), not a requirement: since the game has no pay-to-win element, spending nothing costs you zero competitive disadvantage — this figure describes the optional cosmetic/content track, not a barrier to playing well. hasEnding is false because Fortnite runs ongoing seasons indefinitely; each season concludes its own story but the game itself does not.
What the monetization actually looks like
Fortnite is free to download, and every weapon, building material and combat ability is identical for every player regardless of spending. The only things sold are cosmetic — outfits, emotes, gliders — none of which change how the game plays.
The premium currency, V-Bucks, is sold in fixed packs with no randomization: as of the March 2026 repricing, the smallest pack is 800 V-Bucks for $8.99. The seasonal Battle Pass costs 800 V-Bucks and awards 800 V-Bucks back on completion, which functionally makes it free for anyone who finishes one season and rolls the reward into the next.
Why the pressure score is low despite being a live-service game
The distinguishing fact here is competitive fairness: a player who has spent $0 is exactly as strong in a match as a player who has spent $1,000. That is the opposite of the gacha games on this site, where money buys power.
The score isn't zero, though, because there is real pressure — just a different kind. Battle Pass cosmetics and item shop skins are typically available for a limited time and don't return on the same terms, which creates fear-of-missing-out pressure to buy now rather than later. That's a fashion pressure, not a power pressure, and it's why this sits well below the gacha games but above a true zero.
No ending, by design
Fortnite runs in ongoing seasons with no final chapter — each season closes out its own story beats, but the game itself continues indefinitely into the next one.
