Diablo Immortal

A free action RPG where the honest answer to "what does it cost to finish" is that no single number covers it — public estimates for a fully optimized build span from about $100,000 to more than $500,000, depending on which layer of the gem system you count.

How this rating was reached

Score of 98/100 — the highest on the site — reflects two stacked randomized upgrade systems (gem rank and, since the Awakening update, gem sockets) gating almost all late-game power, plus a documented case of public cost estimates published by outlets and independent analysts landing anywhere from $100,000 to $540,000+ for a single optimized build. No cost-to-progress figure is published, same reasoning as Genshin Impact: the spread between published estimates is a factor of five, driven by build choice and stacked luck, so any single number would be false precision, not honesty. hasEnding is false because this is a live-service game with recurring seasonal content and no final chapter — not a measurement gap.

What the monetization actually looks like

Legendary Gems — the items that carry almost all of a character's late-game power — come from Elder Rift dungeon runs, which drop Legendary Crests that are opened for a randomized gem. Ranking a gem up to 5 stars is its own gacha layer with its own pity counter, separate from the crest pulls that got you the gem in the first place.

A second, later-added layer makes this worse: the Awakening system gives each Legendary Gem five extra slots, and every one of those slots has to be independently upgraded through its own randomized process, on top of the original 5-star rank.

Why the public cost estimates vary by a factor of five

Right after launch in 2022, community calculations — reported by outlets including PCGamesN and Forbes — put the cost of maxing five Legendary Gems to 5 stars at roughly $40,000 to $100,000, using drop-rate data from the game's own rift simulator.

After Blizzard added the Awakening system, independent recalculations (notably a breakdown by Reddit user ShiftYourCarcass, again built on published drop-rate statistics rather than a paid experiment) put a fully awakened build closer to $300,000–$540,000.

We are not averaging these into one number and calling it the answer. The real figure depends on which class and build is being optimized and on luck across two separate randomized systems stacked on top of each other — publishing a single figure would claim a precision that doesn't exist here, the same reason we don't print one for Genshin Impact.

No ending, by design

Diablo Immortal is a live-service action RPG with recurring seasons and no final chapter. There is always another rift to run and another gem slot to fill — that is a fact about the game's structure, not a gap in what we measured.
