Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

One purchase, nothing for sale inside it — and an unusually honest answer to “how long is it”: the gap between the story and full completion is barely more than double, where a comparable open-world game stretches to five times.

Is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 pay to win?
No. There is nothing for sale inside the game: no currency, no loot boxes, no paid convenience. A paid expansion, where one exists, is bought once from a store rather than offered to you while playing.

How this rating was reached

Hours come from aggregated player-submitted times, the only dataset that exists for this: no publisher publishes playtime, so there is no official figure to cite. The sample is self-selected — people who log completion times are more engaged than average. The completionist figure is reported as 68½ hours and stored as 68, because the field holds whole hours. The half hour is noted here rather than silently rounded away. The 2.4x ratio is calculated from the two figures on this page and compared against the 5.4x on our own Elden Ring page. Both sets come from the same source in the same way, which is what makes the comparison meaningful; a ratio built from two different methodologies would not be. Store facts were checked item by item on the Steam listing (app 1903340) on 26.08.2026: base game $47.99, and four additional items — Deluxe Edition Upgrade $10.99, one soundtrack $19.99, two soundtracks free. No expansion exists. Platforms are taken from the official site, which names PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic. This was read rather than assumed. estimatedCostToProgress is blank because nothing exists to progress toward beyond the purchase price. The Deluxe upgrade is a content purchase, not a cost of progress.

The monetization, in full

Nothing is sold inside this game. No currency, no cosmetics, no battle pass, no paid convenience, and no expansion — checked item by item against the store listing rather than assumed.

Four additional items exist on that listing, and none of them is bought while playing: a Deluxe Edition upgrade at $10.99, one soundtrack at $19.99, and two further soundtracks given away free. An upgrade bought once from a shop is a different act from a shop that opens while you play, and this game only has the first kind.

That is a genuine zero on the pressure axis — the same score as Portal, Hades and Balatro on this site.

The number worth knowing is the spread, not the average

Aggregated player times give three figures: about 29 hours for the story, about 46 for a typical run with the side content you happen to find, and about 68 and a half to finish everything.

Read them as a ratio rather than as three numbers. Full completion here is 2.4 times the story. On our Elden Ring page the same ratio is 5.4 — 25 hours of mandatory content against 135 to complete it.

That difference is the practical answer to a question people actually have. In a game with a 5x spread, the advertised length tells you almost nothing about your own playthrough, because it depends entirely on how much optional content you are the kind of person to find. At 2.4x, the number you read is close to the time you will spend. If you are deciding whether a game fits the month you have, that is the property to look at.

What the 46-hour figure is, and why it is the headline

The middle figure is not a compromise between the other two. It is what most people record: they finish the story, do the side content that crosses their path, and stop. It is the closest thing to a single honest answer, which is why it heads the page rather than the shorter, more flattering 29.
